We gave loans to a total of seven entrepreneurs today. See our team page at Kiva.org for further information. If you want to join our lender team, please feel free to do so.

It is fantastic to see how well the microfinance system at Kiva works, and the first loans we made back in november last year is comming in smoothly. We have already relent the first loan we made. So far we have not encountered any problems with losses, so this looks good.

Are you a Kiva lender? If so – what is your experience with lending out money through their service?

Loan to Thi Huong Hoang Group

Written by Bjorn A. Solstad at November 15, 2008, 11:39 pm in General | No comments..

Our first Kiva.org loan was granted to Thi Huong Hoang Group

Our first Kiva.org loan was granted to Thi Huong Hoang Group

The first loan we have partly financed is for the Thi Huong Hoang Group. We believe lending to the feeding of animals and ducks will be well spent money.

Below follows a description of the project from the Kiva.org website.

Ms. Hoang Thi Houng, #09010010, is 32 yrs old and lives with her husband and 2 young children. Her family has many business activities for their income: raising chickens for eggs, ducks for meat, sows for breeding and meat, selling construction materials. In addition to raising animals, every day her husband works as a building contractor. Therefore, her family’s income is quite stable ranging from 15.00 USD to 18.00 USD per day. She already went through one cycle of borrowing from the fund and repaying the loan, and she really likes this form of loan. It agrees with the goals and income of her family. This time she would like to borrow 260.00 USD to buy feed for the pigs, chickens and ducks. The other members in her group are: Mr. Le Dac Chinh, #09010007, loan amount 260.00 USD to raise pigs; Mr. Le Dac Tuyen, # 09010016, loan amount 195.00 USD to buy chicken feed; Ms. Le Thi Hang, # 09010012, loan amount 260.00 USD to raise pigs; MS. Nguyen Thi Toan, # 09010018, loan amount 195.00 USD to buy scrap iron (repay in 25 weeks); Ms. Nguyn Thi Hien, # 09010017, loan amount 130.00 USD to supplement buying feed for pigs (repay in 25 weeks)

Slowly starting to give back – as lenders

Written by Bjorn A. Solstad at November 15, 2008, 3:40 am in General | No comments..

The first post on our newly created site devenia.org is to explain a bit what the background and purpose of this site is. It’s not going to be any fancy texts here about how tremendous Devenia is for you business. That kind of stuff can be found at our main commercial internet marketing site.

Background
To start from the beginning I need to explain a bit about how I actually got here – to the point where a site like this one has a meaning.

Devenia was started as an experiment when Ania and I were runnig a site selling skin care products. In the very beginning we did not even have a company dealing with search engine optimisation, sponsored links or any of the other services we currently offer. We did the whole thing as an effort to run an ordinary ecommerce site. Nothing more.

After a while (a few months) we got our first commercial client that wanted us to do the same for them as we had done for ourself. So the ball started rolling . and so did the income.

February this year we finally established Devenia Ltd. in Great Britain.

Now – to the background for creating Devenia.org.

Devenia.org is simply put an entity to emphasise on something different than our daily work for clients.

At this site we will talk about (and do something about) things that are more important than our clients (and ours) profit margins.

This site is about helping others – without wanting anything in return. Ever.

Poverty is today one of the biggest challenges our planet faces. So – we have decided that we would like to do something about it. One little loan at a time through Kiva.org. The first loans has already been granted, and I will tell about those projects in a later post.

If you want to join our lender team at kiva.org please do so and help us helping others.
